Microsoft Acceleration Lab

Microsoft has recently launched a Vertical ISV Partnership Program (VIPP) Acceleration Lab; this is a three day offering where Microsoft technology evangelists work with your developers to provide hands-on training to ensure your offering exploits the most current Microsoft technologies. Here in Australia, the program is run by Anna Hankin (ISV Audience Manager) and Paul Bouwer (Technical Evangelist). Anna and Paul came out to meet our team and discuss how Microsoft could assist us to take one of our products to market.

Our initial meeting covered architecture, current development status and how we proposed to take the completed product to market. Several days after our initial meeting Paul sent through an architecture drawing that leveraged Microsoft’s best practice for a distributed enterprise grade application. His Azure insights and how to utilise the key components will provide our application with a scalable and redundant architecture. We were invited to attend Microsoft’s Sydney office for three days to work on our solution with key Microsoft personnel.

The morning of the first day was devoted to listing the goals we should aim to achieve during the three day accelerator. Our solution leverages most of the Microsoft stack and several key Microsoft products, in particular Azure, Power BI and Windows 10 loaded on IoT devices. During the three day accelerator lab, we experienced what can only be described as developer nirvana. Azure queries? “Let me ask one of the key developers in the team”. IoT questions? “Let me call Dave Glover down and you can ask him directly”. Power BI? “Sure, we have one of Australia’s most knowledgeable engineers upstairs, he’ll be here in 10 min” It was a surreal experience to have so much talent on tap; any issues we had were dealt with there and then by calling in high level engineers.

The Cowan room in Microsoft's Sydney office was where we convened for the 3 days.

We’re so grateful for the experience and the ability to share a room with some of the most talented people in Australia. During the lab, I had the opportunity to meet a key Microsoft Industry Market Development Executive who will introduce us to prospective clients once the solution is released. You can’t buy this level of assistance during the development stages of your product, especially when it’s coming from one of the planet’s largest companies. I can’t recommend this program highly enough for any company looking to accelerate their product by leveraging Microsoft’s technology offerings. This program has been invaluable to the eventual success of our product. Without a doubt, our solution is much more robust and scalable thanks to the valuable guidance from the VIPP team and the talented engineers at Microsoft. I’m looking forward to the next phase of the product’s evolution, where we’re going to revolutionise the retail sector. Thank you Anna, Paul and the incredible engineers at Microsoft!
